We love Brick Lane. From the world famous Bagel shops to the Sunday food & street market, and more importantly for the stretch of vintage shops in this long street.
Before even starting the long stretch, from the Bethnal Green road end, is FLASHBACK:
Flashback is a vinyl record paradise. They have records from every era. Including a huge downstairs area with even more records. Worth a visit, for those who wish to grab a bargain. They will also buy your old records.
Now to the clothes. At the top of the street, is Hunky Dory:
Hunky Dory specialises in 30-70s era. So you won’t find much modern stuff here. It’s all ‘very old’ stuff. However, the items are all classy items. Even the staff are dressed for the part. A good first stop in Brick Lane.
Further down the road, is Serotonin:
Serotonin is compromised of two shops. They are within 200 metres of each other. They mostly sell 80 & 90s stuff. Go there for bomber jackets and scarfs. They also specialise in designer vintage.
Further along the road, on a corner, is the well named Brick Lane Vintage:
In Brick Lane Vintage you’ll find a lot of colour. They don’t have a particular period, but sell a lot of vintage sportswear and accessories. Look out for their impressive collection of colourful sunglasses.
Just to the left after this, off Brick Lane high street, in Cheshire street, you’ll find Vintage Basement:
There is a lot of 70 and 80s vintage fashion in here. They have a lot of printed bomber jackets, vintage leather items and jumpers from the 70-80s era. Plus a lot of faux fur jackets. Look out for the very impressive disco ceiling.
In the middle of Brick Lane high street you have the two big shops by ROKIT:
These two shops specialise in 70s – 80s & 90s vintage fashion. They have a lot of unisex based sportswear in both shops. So expect a lot of colourful stuff when you get in. Plus a lot of vintage accessories.
Just across the two Rokit shops is the small but fun Cream:
Cream may be small in size, but it’s packed full of many good vintage items. They are mostly a seasonal vintage shop, and do have a huge stock of puffer jackets. Plus a lot of sunglasses.
Further up the street, in Hanbury Street, past the famous chocolate shop Dark Sugars, you’ll find the big vintage shop Atika:
Atika is HUGE. You could easily spend a fair bit of time in there. They have over twenty thousand items. They sell vintage items from every period. They claim to have the biggest selection of vintage denim plus the best mixture of brands. I was told to add that they also wash every item before they sell it. Which is comforting i guess. Best aesthetic, for me, of all the vintage shops in Brick Lane.
Lastly, via a small side entrance next to Old Truman Brewery is the biggest of them all. The Vintage Market:
Down some steps, you’ll come into what they call the Mecca of vintage shopping. There are several stalls selling all kinds of vintage fashion. You may need half a day to properly browse them all. All eras, all styles, and lots of fun and colourful vintage traders. Highly recommend.
This a quick summary of the main vintage shops in Brick Lane i know. A few may be missing on the list. If you are thinking of coming to Brick Lane to do some vintage shopping, hopefully this may offer a decent insight into what to expect.
