Fashion blogging is a worldwide fashion phenomenon. We thought it would be a very good idea to get a perspective of how it all goes from across the pond and Amy was the perfect creative for this. She has a signature colourful aesthetic that she owns very well.
1.Tell us about how Amy got into fashion
Before the age of 16 I was more of a tom boy/skater girl. At the age of 16 I started getting into fashion and watching more and more runway shows. I slowly became obsessed with brands and the fashion world.
2. How did you get into fashion blogging?
I started my blog A Fashion Nerd about 6 years ago. I started it to share my stye with others and it was more of a fun hobby of mine. I loved shooting my own images with my tri pod and clicker. I would take my own photos everywhere, the roof, the woods, the streets, etc. I was inspired by Natalie of Natalieoffduty to start blogging, I loved her blog and her style.
3. We see you are also a designer? Tell us more about that.
Yes, I design vegan shoes, bags, and camera straps. My brand name is @amroidesigns: AmRoi which is my first and last name smashed together. I am launching this line very soon, either this month or next. I am beyond excited to share this line with everyone. My goal is to get non-vegans and vegans to buy it.
4. Is being both a fashion blogger and fashion designer an advantage? We imagine it must be easy to combine the two?
It is 100% amazing to be both. Not only can I design the items but I can also model and blog them. I am able to shoot my entire line myself and get it seen immediately by a bunch of people through my channels. People are very excited for this line. Not to mention I also have a bunch of amazing blogger friends who would wear and shoot my designs as well. It’s all around the perfect combo.
5. Tell us about pieces in your wardrobe you would happily wear everyday?
My Chanel 5018 sunglasses are timeless and I can wear them with every single outfit always. These will never go out of style. Eyewear is always a staple in everyone’s closet. I also love my collared tops that go under my dresses and sweaters. I also love my hats, I have a lot of them and they go with every outfit as well. Accessories are for sure my thing.
6. If you had to choose one designer to dress you everyday who would it be?
Reformation hands down. I love their clothes so much. The style and fit kill me. Every design they do is absolutely adorable and fits like a glove. I feel so feminine in every piece. I also really love Alice McCall.
7. What’s the fashion scene in LA like?
Fashion here is very interesting. Everyone here dresses very casual and a lot of people wear darker colors. Whenever I go out I always make people happy with my bright colors. I feel like my style is more New York or London. Everyone here wears jeans and tees. No one really tries that hard.
8. We notice you LOVE colour as much as we do. Do you think there is a renaissance of signature colourful aesthetics?
Yes, i do feel like more people are getting into colourful aesthetics. This is a GREAT trend .
9. Do you ver wear black? We have to ask.
I did recently, for a funeral! I posted it on my stories and everyone went wild! They loved it. haha.
10. What are the highs and lows of your craft?
Creating content and sharing it with the world is my highlight. The lows are when you post an image you really love but it doesn’t do well on the gram or isn’t seen on the feed. That makes everything a little more stressful.
11. Tell us something about you that a lot of people don’t know about.
I grew up on a farm and had a pony at the age of 8. I started showing horses at age 10. I used to win a lot of shows.
12. What’s next for Amy Roiland? Anyexicting things in the works?
Just working on my blog and fun content with different brands and my own brand Amroi.
